All Lives Are Precious Charity All Stars Match

Saturday the 24th of July proved to be a very special day in MFC’s calendar. Our team made their way to Roger Casement’s GAC co. Antrim to witness a truly heart-warming day of GAA and community. The sun shone, trad music played and people cheered; the energy in Portglenone was palpable.

Over 18 months ago, Ronan Gilchrist All Live Are Precious (ALPS) CEO joked with Antrim Master’s player Paul Hefferon that it would be great to organise a charity football match. Despite COVID putting developments on hold, ALPS COO Frank Diamond powered on to organise a fantastic event. The day was kicked off by the Antrim and Derry “GAA For All” team’s taking centre stage. The delight of the crowds watching the game epitomised what the GAA is all about.

Along with the sunshine came the stars. The ALPS Master’s team was overrun with GAA household names. The squad, captained by former Derry star, Niall McCusker forced old county rivals onto the one panel in aid of ALPS.  To name a few, Peter Canavan, Oisin McConville, Benny Coulter, Enda Muldoon, Rory’s Stories, Joe Brolly and Enda McGinley all togged out in MFC to take on the Antrim master’s side.

Despite an own goal from the Irish News’ Cahair O’Kane, the All Star’s came out on top at the final whistle. The Drum man will admit he’ll stick to the write ups!

While the scoreboard reflected a seven point victory for the All Stars (4-13 to 3-9), the real winners are ALPS and those in our community who will benefit from the funds raised and the essential work ALPS do.

We were delighted ALPS selected MFC to design the kit for the special day. As a nod to the amazing work ALPS do for all in our communities, we were happy to donate 29 playing kits to the team.

Congratulations to Ronan, Frank, Nora and the entire team at All Lives Are Precious for organising such a hugely successful day.
