The extremely popular, annual Foyle Cup tournament took place this year from 17th – 22nd July 2023, all over Derry City, with over 200 clubs involved. Teams travelling from far and wide to showcase their football skills in a bid to win silverware.
2023 turned out to be MFC’s strongest represented year at the Foyle Cup, with almost 20 clubs kitted out in MFC leisure wear, and over 35 teams in total wearing their MFC playing strip.
Kids and adults represented their clubs, and MFC, with a variety of our teams claiming silverware. One of which being our partners, Sion Swifts Ladies, who claimed the Senior Ladies Foyle Cup title for a sixth consecutive year.
Five full days of fixtures, morning to evening, including the much-loved parade on Tuesday morning through the city, kept the week extremely busy. Multiple teams from each club came together in their club colours, with their flags, headbands, and banners, chanting out their club songs as they parade. An electric atmosphere for all in the city that morning!
The Foyle Cup committee can be complimented on the outstanding organisation of this tournament and the smooth-running nature considering the volume of teams, players, and spectators at all levels.
